Hello,
I’m Amy — the photographer behind SMJH Photography and the storyteller behind every frame.
I’m based in Gateshead and specialise in creating gentle, heartfelt, storytelling-led images that celebrate real connection. Whether I’m photographing a wedding, a family, a brand, or a tiny newborn, my approach is always the same: warm, calm, and quietly observant.
I’m drawn to the in‑between moments — the hands, the glances, the laughter that escapes before anyone notices. My work is rooted in emotion and authenticity, shaped by years of capturing my own family’s story and learning how powerful a single photograph can be.
Alongside photography, I also craft memorial bears, which has deepened my understanding of sentiment, legacy, and the importance of preserving memories with care. That same tenderness flows into every session I photograph.
SMJH Photography is more than a business to me — it’s a way of honouring people’s stories, celebrating their milestones, and giving them something to hold onto forever.
Our Story
SMJH Photography began as a simple desire to document the everyday magic in my own home — the chaos, the tenderness, the tiny details that make a family uniquely theirs. What started as a personal creative outlet quickly grew into something bigger as friends, then friends of friends, began asking me to capture their stories too.
Over time, SMJH Photography evolved into a full storytelling brand built on warmth, trust, and emotional connection. I invested in training, refined my editing style, and developed a client experience that feels calm, supportive, and personal from the very first message.
The name SMJH represents the heart of my world — my family — and the reason I fell in love with photography in the first place. Every session I shoot is approached with that same sense of meaning and intention.
Today, SMJH Photography offers weddings, families, newborns, branding sessions, and more, all delivered with a gentle, documentary-led style. My mission has always been the same: to create images that feel like memories — honest, warm, and full of story.
